Eat: Sisserou’s in Tulsa

I’m trying something new here. Jim and I love to eat out, we love good food, and for several years I’ve been writing a lot of Yelp reviews. You can check out my profile and reviews here. Recently I’ve been thinking about keeping more of my own content on sites I own, which is what I always advise my clients to do.

So I’ve added a new category called eat, where I’ll review places we eat and our impressions. And photos.

We ate lunch here on the recommendation of our Segway tour guide, a lifelong Tulsan. We were there right at Noon on a Saturday, so it was surprising that the place was nearly empty. It’s only been open about nine months, so I hope business will pick up.

We loved the atmosphere. Colorful with an urban feel, brick walls and great light. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, made excellent suggestions, and had apparently recently named the second-best mixologist in Tulsa.

We love appetizers, and I’ve often heard that many chefs do their best work on the starters, so we nearly always order them. Our waiter talked us out of the dish we had decided on, and into the beef patties, which I’d never have chosen on my own. The official description is A soft, flaky pastry shell filled with a flavorful curried beef mixture and served with a guava dipping sauce. Oh, my.

One of the best appetizers I’ve ever tasted. The beef was seasoned perfectly, with just the right amount of curry.

We ordered the lunch specials; I chose the mahi tacos, while Jim chose chicken. We both ordered sides of the restaurant’s award-winning street corn, which is covered in spices and cheese.

Mahi tacos, with mango sticks and slaw, topped with cilantro. And the street corn … yum.

Eat there if you get the chance.
